Admission Process for Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) - Pilani, Goa & Hyderabad
- First step to enter any of the esteemed Birla Institutes of Technology & Science (Pilani, Goa or Hyderabad) is to apply for BITSAT and take the online test at one of the test centers.
- As a prerequisite, you need to score at least 80% in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics in your 12th grade with minimum 60% in each of these subject separately to be eligible for admission.
- Direct admissions are offered to 1st rankers of all central & state boards in programmes of their choice irrespective of their BITSAT score.
- An online preference cum application form will be made available on the website http://www.bitsadmission.com/, most probably in the month of May, to all those who have taken BITSAT. You need to take a print out of duly filled form and post it to the institute.
- DOCUMENTS TO BE ENCLOSED along with application form:
- An attested photocopy of the X pass/ Matriculation/Secondary School certificate issued by the Board.
- An attested photocopy of the marksheet of the qualifying and any other higher University/Board examinations passed.
- A Merit List based on total BITSAT score shall be prepared.
- Candidates will be alloted seats based on their BITSAT score and preferences. Slightly more number of seats than actual intake shall be offered to account for probable cancellations.
- Also, a certain number of students shall be placed on waiting list. They will be alloted seats as and when vacancies arise.
- Students who are admitted to a programme will continue to be on the waiting list for their higher preferences. They shall be considered for upgrade in their preference when vacancies arise.
- Several admissions rounds may be conducted as & vacancies arise. Details of each round shall be put up on the website www.bitsadmission.com
- How you fill your preferences can make a huge difference in seat alloted to you.
- Do not cross out any option if you wish to join BITS irrespective of the programme or branch. This way you'll be able to float up until the admission process is complete. You can also avail of certain unusual flexibilities like dual degree etc.
- On the other hand, if you are absolutely sure of your inclination then you should show preferences to those limited programmes only and cross out the rest.
- Once you are alloted a seat, you have to report for admission to particular campus. However, if that alloted seat is not your first preference, you remain in the waiting list for the programmes of your higher preferences at the other campuses too, till all admissions are finalized. To minimize inconvenience, there is a provision to opt out of the race for programmes offered at other campuses after you report for admission at any one of the campuses. In this case, you will be considered only for programmes of your higher preference offered at the campus you have joined.
