Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Admission Process
NRI (non-resident Indians) defined as those who have stayed outside India for more than 10 years.
ELIGIBILITY:
This admission category is applicable to those who have passed their 10th or 12th or both from an Indian board (CBSE or ICSE) outside India with minimum 60% aggregate except those NRIs from Pakistan and Bangladesh.
If you fall in the category of NRI students and interested in applying for an undergraduate course in engineering or pharmacy then you are exempted from appearing for MHT-CET-2011. You can appear for AIEEE.
COLLEGES HAVING NRI QUOTA:
NRI quota is usually 15% of the Management quota as per the rules laid down by DTE but they can change. It’s important to note that not all colleges that have management quota dedicate 15% of its seats for NRI's.
If you are an NRI then you can apply to the following colleges:
- DJ Sanghvi College of Engineering (DJSCoE)
- KJ Somaiya (Sion)
- KJ Somaiya College of Engineering (Vidyavihar)
- M.E.S. Pillai’s Inst. Of Information Technology
- NMIMS Mukesh Patel
- Thadomal Shahani College of Engineering (TSEC)
- Xavier Institute of Engineering
- Inst. of Chemical Technology (ICT)
- College of Engineering, Pune (COEP)
ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR COEP:
If you wish to apply at COEP then the procedure mentioned below must be followed.
1.Go and visit http://www.coep.org.in
2.Fill up the application form for Foreign Nationals/Foreign Students/Persons of Indian Origin and Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries that is available there.
3.The completed application form along with the required documents (mentioned below) should be sent to the address mentioned in the form.
4. Admission is based on 12th Std PCM Marks and according to merit, the college comes up with one or more lists
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:
(A) For Person of Indian Origin (PIO)/ Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries
- Proof of PIO / NRI from the Indian Embassy in the respective country.
- Residence proof / Work Permit
- Passport of applicant is mandatory in case of PIO and also in case of Foreign nationals/ Foreign students.
- In case of PIO passport of applicant and either of his/her Parents or Grand Parents or Great Grand Parents issued by Government of India is also required.
- Completed Application form with recent colour photograph pasted and signed in the space provided.
- Application fee of Rs.15, 000/- (Non refundable) in the form of Demand Draft in the name of Director, College of Engineering, Pune, payable at Pune.
- HSC (10+2) Examination Mark sheet or in case of grade sheet, an equivalent mark sheet showing the relationship between grades and marks issued by the competent authority.
(B) For Foreign National / Foreign Student
- Passport of the Applicant
- Passport of applicant is mandatory in case of Foreign nationals/ Foreign students.
- Completed Application form with recent color photograph pasted and signed in the space provided.
- Application fee of Rs. 15,000/- (Non refundable) in the form of Demand Draft in the name of Director, College of Engineering, Pune, payable at Pune.
- HSC (10+2) Examination Mark sheet or in case of grade sheet, an equivalent mark sheet showing the relationship between grades and marks issued by the competent authority
ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR OTHER COLLEGES:
If you wish to apply at DJ Sanghvi College of Engineering(DJSCoE)/ KJ Somaiya(Sion)/ KJ Somaiya( Vidyavihar)/ M.E.S. Pillai’s Inst. Of Information Technology/ NMIMS Mukesh Patel /Thadomal Shahani College of Engineering (TSEC)/ Xavier Institute of Engineering then the procedure mentioned below must be followed.
- Repeatedly visit the respective college website in May/June. If you don’t know the site then you can find it in our college reviews section.
- Colleges can sometimes be not co operative at all and students are just asked to come to the college just to read the notice regarding admission forms. Also, you must keep in touch with the college authorities through telephone as well. Hence, keep a note of all the telephone numbers of the respective colleges.
- The respective college will either put up a form on the site and email it/print it and submit it at the respective college or it will put up a notice asking you to come to the college n fill up the form.
- It is mandatory to carry all your attested documents at all times. The documents to be carried are:
- Additional recent color photograph attached with application.
- Carry enough cash because you might be asked to pay some amount while submitting your form.(a decent amount would be atleast Rs.2000)
- Passport of the Applicant or either of his/her Parents or Grand Parents or Great Grand Parents issued by Government of India.
- Proof of NRI from the Indian Embassy from the respective country.
- Residence Permit/Work Permit.
- HSC/Equivalent Examination Mark Memo.
- Marks equivalent to Grades certificate issued by the Authority (If applicable)
FEE STRUCTURE:
Following is the per year fee charged to the candidates belonging to NRI and who are admitted to four year degree course in Engineering:
- Tuition Fee - US $ 3000
- Development Fee - US $ 1000
- Other Fee - Rs. 5600/-
- Total Fee Per Year - US $ 4000 + Rs. 5600/-
All NRIs have to pay the processing fee of Rs. 15000/-(Rs. Fifteen thousand only) at the time of application by DD drawn in the favor of Director, Technical education, Mumbai, payable at Mumbai (or Director, College of Engineering Pune Payable at Pune in case of COEP)
Following is the per year fee charged to the candidates belonging to the category of Children of Indian workers in Gulf Countries (a special case of NRI quota) and who are admitted to four year degree course in the Engineering:
- Tuition Fee - US $ 1500
- Development Fee - US $ 500
- Other Fee - Rs. 4000/-
- Total Fee Per Year - US $ 2000 + Rs. 4000/-
The candidates belonging to the category of Children of Indian workers in Gulf Countries (a special case of NRI quota) have to pay the processing fee of Rs. 5000/-(Rs. Five thousands only) at the time of application by DD drawn in the favor of Director, Technical education, Mumbai, payable at Mumbai.
NOTE:
It is very important to note that if your parents work in the gulf countries then you can apply for this special case of NRI quota. But it is also required to note that all colleges that have NRI quota do not necessarily have the special case of NRI quota. Always check with the college regarding this while you are applying for your admission. Also, if you are a special case of NRI quota then you are allowed to apply for the General NRI quota as well. But this will narrow your chances of entering into that particular college because the no. of students in the general NRI category are higher.
