Spot Round Counselling for admissions to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) via the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2013 has been rescheduled. Interested candidates can now register for the Spot Round on or before July 27 (earlier it was July 24)

Central Board Secondary Education (CBSE) which takes care of the engineering Admissions in IITs and NITs through the so called toughest engineering entrance test has made several changes for this years admissions. Moreover, counselling schedule was very much delayed which affected admissions in state engineering colleges.

Currently, three rounds of admissions to NIT are over and students can check the Cutoffs.

Students who haven't secured a seat in the NITs uptill now have to register for the Spot Round on the CSAB and give fresh options as per their priority. Announcement for Spot Round Allotment will be declared on July 29.

The Third Allotment for admissions to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and ISM Dhanbad via the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2013 is declared. Students who filled the option form for 16 IITs can check their Round 3 Allotment.

The First Allotment for admissions to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) via the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2013 is declared. Students who filled the option form can check their Round 1 Allotment.

IIT Round 2 Allotment Declared

The Second Allotment for admissions to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and ISM Dhanbad via the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2013 is declared. Students who filled the option form for 16 IITs can check their Round 2 Allotment.

After the Round 1 admissions, there were altogether 769 seats vacant in the 16 IITs and ISM Dhanbad. This is the first time in the history of IIT admissions that so many seats have been vacant. Reports suggest that the reason for such big number may be because many students aren't keen on joining the newer IITs (9 of the total 16) or they haven't secured their desired stream of engineering.

With such a huge vacancy, it is possible that students might battle out their way till Round 3 or Spot Round, if any.

Revised Schedule for NIT Counselling via JEE Main

The Counselling Schedule for admissions to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) via the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2013 has been rescheduled once again.

Registrations for NIT counselling which have begun from July 1 are now extended till July 9 so that a student who secures a seat in the IIT cannot confirm in the NIT simultaneously.

Both boards, just like last year, have decided to keep the admissions separate and also made sure that the counselling schedule of IIT preceeds the NIT.

Hence, the entire counselling schedule has changed and here is the revised one:

The First Allotment for admissions to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and ISM Dhanbad via the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2013 is declared much before the schedule. Students who filled the option form for 16 IITs can check their Round 1 Allotment.

The actual date of declaration for Round 1 Allotment was July 4.

JEE Main Rank List and Counselling Schedule 2013

The Rank List for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main for admissions to National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and several other centrally funded institute will be declared on July 1. Students who appeared for the JEE Main can check their results on CSAB.

Central Board Secondary Education (CBSE) which takes care of the engineering admissions in IITs and NITs through the so called toughest engineering entrance test has made several changes for this years admissions. First and foremost, admissions to the IITs will be based on the two tier exam (JEE Main and JEE Advanced). Candidates who qualify the Mains can appear for the Advanced and then eventually go ahead for the IIT admissions (provided they qualify, of course).

Till last year, admissions to NITs, Delhi Technological University (DTU), Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT), Delhi and other colleges were based on the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). This year AIEEE was scrapped and a new exam pattern - JEE Main and Advanced - was started.

Eventhough JEE Main was held in the month of April (both online and offline) and results were announced early in May, the rank lists were not declared. The attention was completely focused towards the JEE Advanced, its preparation, rules and regulations and the overall hype.

Nearly after 2 months, the CBSE has announced that the JEE Main Ranks will be declared on July 1. Here's the entire Counselling Schedule:

The Result or Merit Ranks for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced held on June 2 for admissions to 16 Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and ISM Dhanbad is DECLARED. Students who qualified the JEE Mains (first part of the two tier exam) and appeared for the Advanced can check their MERIT RANKS.

JEE Advanced Results were earlier scheduled for June 23 but were announced today early evening. Due to the sudden announcement, there's been a heavy traffic on the website due to which many students are unable to check their results.

Answer Key for JEE Advanced 2013 is OUT

The Answer Key for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 of the Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE) Advanced held on June 2 is declared. Students who appeared for the exam can verify their answer between June 14 to June 17, 2013.

There will also be a provision for the student to request for review of specific questions and its marks. The student will have to pay a fees of Rs. 500 for each question to be reviewed.

Results of JEE Advanced 2013 will be announced on Sunday, 23rd June, 2013. Successful candidates need to log in and give their choices for courses offered by the 16 IITs and ISM Dhanbad, from 24th June till 30th June, 2013.

JEE Advanced 2013 Has Raised Bar

Sunday, June 2, was the day when over 1 lakh students across India faced the most hyped examination of the country - JEE Advanced - for admissions to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). It was the culminating point of their years of effort. About 1.25 lakhs gave the exam out of the 1.5 lakhs who had qualified the Mains exam held in April. Stupidsid gives you a brief insight into the important aspects of this examination.

There were two papers which were held in the time slot from 9 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 5pm. Most students said that the Mathematics paper was challenging and required a lot of time to solve the questions.

This has been like the trend with JEE for the last few years to construct a tough Maths paper. This opinion was echoed by Shardul, an aspirant from Mumbai, who scored 267 marks in JEE Mains and is aspiring to study a top branch from one of the old IITs. On interacting with the Stupidsid Reporter he said, “Maths was tougher than what was expected and also tougher than last year’s paper.”

In a new trend, Chemistry which is generally the easiest was comparatively tougher this time especially the sections of Inorganic and Organic chemistry. Shubham, another IIT aspirant from Mumbai told Stupidsid, “Paper 1 of Physics was especially easy. The questions in Physics were comparatively easier and more scoring than previous years.”

Paper 1 contained questions which were of the single correct type, more than one correct and integer answer types. The latter sections had negative marking. Paper 2 had paragraph type; matrix matching and more than one correct type questions all of which has equal weightage and -1 for a wrong answer. Both papers had an equal number of questions for all three subjects.

Most IIT-JEE coaching experts feel that the paper level has really “advanced” this time and this will propel future aspirants to prepare in a more dedicated and fundamental way in the coming years.

The results for JEE Advanced will be declared on June 23 for admission to the premier engineering colleges across India which had about 9647 seats to offer last year.

CBSE Agress to Provide Answer Keys to JEE Main Candidates

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has finally succumbed to the pressure of lakhs of engineering aspirants who appeared for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main 2013 by allowing it to display the OMR Sheets, Answer Keys and Calculation Sheets of every candidate.

The board was hellbent on not revealing the answer keys more than a week ago. Last week, several students has complained that they found their JEE Main Score very low as expected by their respective coaching insititutes. Many students found a huge difference in their actual score and the expected score (by going through the answer key of top JEE coaching institutes).

Students have to apply for the photocopies by paying a fee of Rs. 500 via a Demand Draft (payable to Secretary, CBSE) at New Delhi. The application has to be received by CBSE before June 15 and the board will dispatch the documents only by Speed Post. Even those students who had applied for these documents under the Right To Information (RTI) Act will now have to reapply under the new guidelines. Official Notice

JEE Main scores are used for admissions to the top engineering institutes of the country - IITs and NITs. JEE Main in the screening for JEE Advanced (Entrance for IITs) which is scheduled on June 2.

The worst part to all this is that the registrations for JEE Advanced has already closed. Now, what if a student who missed the cutoff (113) by a couple of marks actaully clears the cutoff? Will the board leverage by allowing such students to appear for JEE Advanced? Rather, will there be a second JEE Advanced for this season? The CBSE Board fails to answer the above set of questions.

Eventhough it is difficult but we really hope the entire process is carried out without any hassles and annoyance.

JEE Main 2013 Results DECLARED

Much awaited Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main results for the year 2013 has been declared. Students who appeared for the exam can check their RESULTS. This year JEE Main has replaced the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE).

What next?

A student's Class 12 board marks will carry 40% weightage and JEE scores will carry 60% weightage for admissions. The top 1.5 lakh scorers will be eligible for the JEE Advanced test; the scores of which will determine admission to the 13 IITs and the Indian School of Mines in Dhanbad.

Students who have qualified for the JEE Advanced (Entrance test for the IITs and ISM Dhanbad) have to register for the exam between May 8 to May 13 on the JEE Advanced Website.

JEE Advanced 2013 is scheduled on June 2.

IIT or NIT, But Not Both

In what could be a boon for many average rankers in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and a huge setback for the toppers, the two prestigious boards - IITs and NITs - have mutually decided that a student CANNOT simultaneously hold a seat at the IITs and NITs during the admission counselling.

Engineering aspirants can look forward to more seats at IITs and NITs this year because of an admission coordination mechanism agreed by the two last week. Two of the country’s best brands in engineering education have jointly decided to forbid candidates from holding a seat in an IIT and NIT, simultaneously, at the time of admission so that candidates with lower rank stand a better chance at securing seats in either of the two institutions.

A candidate with a good rank in the JEE Main and JEE Advanced will not be able to take admission in an IIT unless he surrenders his allotted NIT seat and vice versa. The decision was taken on May 4 in a meeting held at IIT-Delhi. HRD ministry officials, too, were present.

“Till last year, many candidates would pay the admission fee for their allotted seats in an IIT and as well as an NIT and decide where they want to join at the last moment. Since students don’t bother to cancel admission in either one of the institutions, this leads to seats falling vacant once the session begins and deprives many candidates with lower JEE rank from taking admission,” said a senior HRD ministry official.

According to GB Reddy, last year’s JEE chairman, in 2012 about 320 seats fell vacant across 15 IITs and in 2011, 757 seats went unoccupied. The coordination effort of the IITs (JEE Advanced score applicable) and the NITs (JEE Main applicable) is limited to the sharing of admission data. Their counselling processes will be completely independent of each other, said HC Gupta, chairman of JEE Advanced this year.

Many Errors in JEE Main 2013, says students

Several students who appeared for the JEE (Main) computer-based test on Tuesday claimed there were ambiguous questions. They claimed there could be errors as they spent lot of time in cracking the questions. Experts are unable to pinpoint the errors as students do not have a copy of the questions but the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) claimed that question papers will be made available to the students after all tests in the online slots are over.

Students who wrote the JEE Main 2013 online exam were very apprehensive giving the new online test for which there was only the information given by the CBSE to go by and no other clue. Moreover they were asked to report an hour and half early for registration. This was an inconvenience to students especially in the metros where they had to travel a long distance to the JEE Main 2013 online exam centres.

The students who wrote the JEE Main 2013 online tests reportedly spent a lot of time on the papers especially the Mathematics section. Many of them felt that there were errors since they were unable to work out any solutions to the questions. They felt some of the questions were ambiguous.

The students were distressed as they have no recourse to check whether their answers are right. It may be mentioned here that the JEE Main 2013 Online exam has no provision of providing the students with the question papers immediately. CBSE has made arrangements to mail the questions at a later point which the students feel is wrong for them. Students say that the CBSE board ought to make arrangements to print the papers and give the students as soon as the exam is over to enable them to verify their answers with their teachers/ coaching classes.

Parents and student alike feel that CBSE should have made proper arrangement to supply an error free paper irrespective of the mode – online or offline. On the other hand, Vineet Joshi, Chairperson, CBSE says that the claims of the students will be looked into by experts who would announce their opinion on the error claims as soon as possible. He reiterated that CBSE has taken the utmost care in conducting the exam and that the students would be compensated if their claims turned out to be true.

Many parents have claimed to conduct a retest for JEE Main because of the errors followed by disorganised exam venue which led to less time to solve the paper.

Class XII Hall Tickets Mandatory for JEE Main

Students who are going to appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main - Entrance Test for Admissions to Engineering Courses in IITs, NITs, and IITs, - have to compulsorily carry their Class XII Hall Tickets to the exam centre along with JEE Main Admit Card.

This is because nearly 2 lakh of the 12.82 lakh candidates who have registered for JEE (Main) have not submitted their Class XII roll numbers to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The students will be given an authentication sheet in the examination hall to verify their roll numbers. "The candidates are also advised to bring along a copy of their Class XII hall ticket and submit it to the invigilator," states a Notification on the JEE (Main) official website.

CBSE which is conducting the JEE Main exam has repeatedly asked the students to update their roll numbers of Class XII before downloading the JEE Main Admit Card. CBSE chairman Vineet Joshi said, "While two lakh students have not submitted their roll numbers at all, several students who had provided their details have written to the board, saying they had made mistakes. Students anyway have time till April 25 to submit their roll numbers. The hall ticket process will ensure that they do not make mistakes while submitting their details."

JEE Main Pen-Paper Test (Offline) is scheduled on April 7th while the Computer Based Test will begin from April 8th to April 25th.

The slot selection for Computer Based Test for the Join Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2013 has begun. The last date to fill your given slot is 15th February, 2013.

Registered students who have opted to appear for the Computer Based Test, scheduled from 8th April to 25th April, have to book their desired slot on or before 15th Feb. In case a student does not book his/her slot, s/he will be randomly allotted a slot by the board authorities. To book your slot, log on to the JEE Main Website

The offline examination (Pen paper test) will be conducted on 7th April, 2013.

Application forms to register for the first version the newly introduced Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main 2013 will be made available from November 8, 2012. The application forms need to be completed online through their website : www.jeemain.nic.in. Last date for filling the application forms is 15th December 2012.

The application fees for the JEE Main vary between Rs. 400 and Rs. 1400 for General OBC candidates depending on whether they're appearing for just one of the papers or both of them. Moreover, fees are subsidised for girls and SC/ST/PwD candidates.

Dates for IIT Joint Entrance Exam (Mains & Advanced) 2013 are out

The newly introduced single entrance exam for IITs and other some other institutes will be held in a two-stage manner, i.e., there will be two separate tests namely the Main Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and the Advanced Joint Entrance Exam for IITs (IITJEE). The JEE Mains Entrance Test is likely to be held on April 7, 2013. After the results of the Mains have been declared, only the first few rankers will be allowed to appear for the Advanced JEE provided they score amongst the top 20 percentile in their respective board exams. The advanced JEE is likely to be conducted on June 2, 2013.

In most probability, only the IITs will be choosing the students based on the Advanced JEE scores while other institutes will only be considering the scores of the JEE Mains test. Students, however, are still left in the lurch as clarifications fail to come by easily and quickly. Another factor that's got students worried is that, if there's just one single test for the whole country, scoring well in it becomes vital. "We'll be under even more pressure than before when at least we had a chance of scoring in other tests if we failed to do well in one" says Simran, a student of standard 12.
