What can be more dreadful than joining an engineering college and just a few months later, the college says, 'Sorry, we're shutting down!' Yes, you read it right. Parshvanath College of Engineering, Thane (Mumbai) has been officially closed and the current students are now allotted seats in other engineering colleges.

Parshvanath College of Engineering, located on the Ghodbunder Road towards Thane, reportedly were having problems within the management. An official notice issued by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was sent to the college authorities to shut down the campus and accordingly transfer the students. "The college was in a mess over the last couple of years. The management and higher authorities were not ready to come to an understanding. Two years ago, a new principal was appointed and students could see a significant improvement in the college and staff. But the management has crashed all our hopes", says a frustrated student from the college.

Parshvanath College of EngineeringAICTE had sent an official notice to the college saying that they're NOT ELIGIBLE to conduct admissions for 2012-13 batch. Despite this, the college conducted admissions for the First Year (FE) students. Obviously, many students and parents were not aware of such ongoing altercations between the college authorities and the central board. "I've been going to various engineering colleges in the city for my sons admission so that he can continue his ongoing course and does not waste a year but the principal and management turn a deaf ear to the problem", says a worried parent.

Students from second to fourth year were asked to fill up three choices to continue their engineering course in any other college in Mumbai but the first year students were not given any such choice and have been asked to repeat the MT CET entrance test along with the 2013-14 batch. Funny part is that the final year students had to fill the choices once again in accordance to their FINAL YEAR PROJECT GROUP. "Most of us had made groups with our friends who were department toppers as well. So, they obviously filled high ranking colleges in their priority whereas students like me (aggregate around 63%) filled in the 2nd rung choice. Now, we're told to amicably decide amongst ourselves and select the same college so that we can continue our final year project. This is highly unacceptable for any top scorer." quotes a final year student.

Currently, most of the students have got a seat in second rung colleges across Mumbai and can continue with their curriculum but the stress over the last 6 months has been very annoying. Adjusting to the new college and their students can be very embarrassing for many students.
