Interview experience:

1st I was sat for John Deere for Interview experience..It took 3 rounds -
Written ( Level - Moderate)
GD ( My 1st experience- was good )
PI - They asked some questions on my stream, some HR & project related questions.
NTPC- For On campus, they generally select the top ten marks getter for direct interview.. A seven member panel had come from different expertise. Interview was focused again on project, HR and my branch. Also they gave 2-3 situations related with power plant and asked the solution.

Job Description:

NTPC(National Thermal Power Limited) is India's largest power company..
The 1st year is a training program which includes - classroom training ( sessions on mechanical, electrical and control & instrumentation related topics), management module, 15 days drama module, 1 week outbound training, practical sessions in power plants, Rotational On Job ( 1 month training in finance, HR, Contracts & Materials etc dept.) and finally Direct On Job..

After One year, We are promoted to E2A level- Engineer. After that, promotion cycle is of 3 years. As I am from Electronics and Communications Engineering background, I have been given work in C & I dept. If the power plant is already existing, then the work is offered in mainly two departments.

1. Operation - 8 hour shifts in plants. Morning, Evening & Night. Whole plant operation is under your control. You have to sit in control room, monitor and remove any fault you encounter.
2. Maintenance - 9 to 5. The equipment testing & its working is under your area.
   Right now I am in Nagpur where the plant is arriving. So there are two areas we have to work for. Erection and Commissioning - where you have to test all the equipments, design all the control loops and start the whole plant without any fault.

Experience at Work:

NTPC is a PSU, working hours are flexible..working environment is good.
Now comes job satisfaction. For whole mechanical, civil and to some extent- electrical- work is very good. For C & I its good but after certain time you may feel monotonous. For starting phase if you get in upcoming plants then the opportunity to learn is highest. I will say apart from other branches I mentioned,for core electronics its one of the best company in India. The job is secure. Package offered is very good ( 9.85 lakhs ). Facilities provided are very good.
Problems - Some plant locations are placed in remote places, for city people life and work will feel slow.. If you want to work in software or communication, look out other options.

Advice to the juniors:

Decide your area of interest. If you want to pursue MBA then 2 year experience will matter a lot. In area of power plants, NTPC provides one of the best training and experience to start off. Along with working you also get ample of time to do your extra-curriculars and higher study preparation.
