The professors at NSIT are all seniors and very well-qualified teachers. However, it is said that there is a lack of enthusiastic teaching and many of the professors teach just to complete the syllabus irrespective of whether the students understand  the subject or not. “Lab assistants are even worse” says a student. The students out here rate the faculty a mere two on five.

The campus of the institute is huge and spreads over 150 acres of land. Endless greenery is seen in all directions and in middle of this paradise (oh, we even spotted some peacocks at a distance) is the main college building. The campus hosts a superb auditorium complete with projectors and AV equipment, excellent recreational and sports facilities but when it comes to infra that the students actually use or require it isn’t up to satisfactory levels. “The labs aren’t well equipped and learning gets affected due to this” says a disappointed student. “Although everything is available, it needs to be managed in a better way” he continues.

Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT) has created a great legacy for itself and placements turn out to be one of the finest in the country among engineering colleges. More than 200% placements – that’s two job choices for every student – have been observed. Companies like Microsoft, Google and Facebook are also said to visit the campus and offer salaries in the range of 15 to 20 lakhs per annum. The highest went up to an astonishing 45L offered by Schlumberger to one of the Mechanical Engineering students. But of course such high packages are offered only to a handful and in case you’ve started dreaming, the average salary comes down to a hefty 6.5 to 7 lakh per year.
Yet many students opt for higher studies and bigger ambitions. The college recorded highest number admits in top B-Schools which accept CAT scores in 2011.

Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT) is located in Dwarka Sector 3; about one and a half kilometres from “Dwarka Mor” Metro station on the Blue line. Share-rickshaws are easily available from the station. And if you wish to walk, you are sure to get some company. So, in terms of accessibility it’s not bad unless you are located in some far off corner of Delhi.

There are two pretty good hostels; one each for boys and girls and can accommodate enough number of students. However, there are complaints about the unbearable mess food because of it being cooked in hard water.

There are two canteens in the Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT) campus; one’s called Zyaca and is the better among the two. It is well-ventilated and spacious enough so as to accommodate students even during lunch time. It serves excellent fast food and its light on the pocket. “Chilli potato” one of the most popular dishes is superbly cooked and is priced at a reasonable.

Dwarka Sector 4 and Sector 6 have numerous of snack joints and parlours – KFC, Mc Donald’s, CCD to name just a few. Rajouri Garden is another favourite of the students although it’s a little far from the college. Occasionally, the guys also sneak out for a cheap drink at “Paharganj”.

The students out here come from good family backgrounds and are in general either smart or very hardworking. The ratio of girls to boys is a healthy 2:3; much better compared to other engineering colleges but this is what the greedy guys have to say “there are too few pretty girls!”

“Moksh”, NSIT’s biggest and most popular festival held in March, is one event all the students here wait for. It’s an inter-college cultural festival which observes amazing participation from various colleges all over Delhi. “Innovision” is the technical festival held in January. Again an inter college festival it serves as a great opportunity for students interested in technology from different colleges as well as schools. “Resonance”, an intra college festival held in the beginning of the semester is organized for the first years; the main aim being greater interaction amongst students.

The college recommends the general 75% norm which is followed everywhere else but it is quite relaxed when it comes to taking actions. Students are allowed up to 50% or even below if they manage to produce a medical certificate. However, the strictness is observed to be increasing as you move into the higher years.

Great placements coupled with lots of extracurricular activities is a BIG reason to get in here. Relaxed attendance norms give you all the time in the world – utilise it to achieve your bigger ambitions or just waste it to enjoy the subtle moments of life. But don’t expect too much quality learning unless you yourself work towards it.
