Students here are very proud of the faculty they have. They say that the professors are a lot better than those in other pharmacy colleges, most having about 5-10 years of teaching experience. Although lectures are conducted primarily in English, general communication is often in Marathi.

The infrastructure here is really good. Laboratories are well-maintained and well-equipped; students describe them as ‘a class apart from the rest’. The library is quite impressive too, and has all books you could possibly ask for, along with the added advantage of having excellent seating-space.

Though very few students actually opt for placements, those who do definitely end up with decent jobs.

Poona College of Pharmacy, which you can find in Erandwane, has a very accessible, central location.

There are a number of colleges in this campus, and they all share a common canteen. From the outside, it seems pretty big, but only once you enter and see the multitudes of students inside, do you realize how tiny it is for the number of people it caters to. But the size aside, it’s pretty good. The food is normally hot, and more importantly, reasonable.

The extremely popular Durga Coffee is a very common hangout, and students will never cease to remind you that they go only to the ‘original’ Durga. Apart from that, you can always find people in the Deccan area, as well as the regular suspects like McDonalds and Dominoes, which are nearby.

It’s often surprising (and sometimes scary) how multicultural the crowd at Poona College of Pharmacy is. There are a number of students from outside Pune, a handful from outside Maharashtra, and even a few from outside India! They do, somehow, manage to gel pretty well together, and make for a great environment. There is enthusiastic participation in co-curricular as well as extra-curricular activities.

The Ganesh festival is probably far more celebrated than any normal ‘college fest’ here. The college has different cultural days every once in a while, though the highlight of the year is definitely the Pharmacy Cup, held in January, which is 15 years old and teams from all over Maharashtra participate in it.

The general consensus is that the teaching is so good that students never really have the heart to bunk lectures. However, if they do, then the aftermath isn’t too pleasant. If attendance falls below 75%, there’s a fine to be paid per lecture.

Certainly one of the best colleges in India if you wish to pursue pharmacy. A big thumbs up.
