The better departments with regard to the faculties are CSE and ECE, and students rate these departments average. Other departments at times do not even have sufficient faculty, and is certainly below CSE & ECE departments. Most of the faculties are fresh B.Tech/M.tech pass outs, and lack teaching experience, of which, the students feel the pinch. Communication wise, since most of the students are from a Telugu background, teaching is most comfortable in Telugu, but otherwise they encourage students all the time to speak in English. The faculty is approachable and friendly in their nature otherwise, just that the students aren’t happy with their teaching.

The infrastructure is poor; students rate it at mere 5 out of 10. Some buildings are still under construction, in spite of the college being shifted to this campus since 3 years. Students say that ever since then some or the other construction keeps happening. But from the perspective of the college, since about 90% students are on scholarships, and the government doesn’t send the funds on time, which causes the delay in the development of the infrastructure. A few blocks are still un-operational, and shut. Classes are okay, with fans, but surprisingly no tube lights. Labs have the equipments in place, but none maintained. At the library students face a shortage of books, even though there are 2 libraries, and ample seating space. Wi-Fi is recently installed, but students aren’t allowed access, as it’s only for office admin staff.

The students tell us with extreme despair that the management takes no interest in getting companies to visit the campus. About 4-6 students got jobs on campus last year that too for BPO/tech support profiles.

Located off the Rajiv – Rahadari Road (SH-1), Amina Institute is about 3 Km drive through a small village from the main road. Far from the city, and pretty inaccessible by own vehicle too, this college is just beyond the Outer Ring Road, the part where its yet not constructed, but you get the point, isn’t it. The college has 2 buses for students and staff but the RTC bus service, is poor and unreliable here. 211 series of RTC buses drops you at Shamirpet, which is the closest bus stop, and from there, you have to walk the 3km part or hitch-a-hike on a friend’s bike. The charges for the college bus is Rs.14,000 per year, and a small number of students use it, and earlier there were 5-6, but now only a couple are running. A little less than half of the students get their own bikes, while the rest use RTC buses.

The college hostel is under construction, but students are given accommodation in the parts that are ready. The facilities at the hostel are not good, and food is not any better. Although purified drinking water is available, but all the purifiers installed don’t work. Management is trying hard to settle down with all the developments. The expense involved in staying at the hostel comes to about Rs.20,000 – Rs.25,000.

The canteen and the mess are the same. The canteen, if you were to imagine, is like a shed without the walls, just 4 pillars, and a ceiling. There are enough tables provided for people to have their meals. Since, many live in hostels, the canteen is also their mess, and students are content with the meals provided, they are affordable, and suits their taste. Tiffins are also available in the mornings. But apart from these typical items, food at the canteen is a not anything great. Even meals students say is erratic, and 2 out of 7 days, turns out to be tasty. During lunch time space is also an issue, people either have to wait, or eat in the classrooms.

If there are classes going on, there is no way you can get to bunk the lecture. So there’s hasn’t been much that students have discovered around the college to hang out at. Most people stay far from the college, so the first thing on their minds after the day, is to get back home, asap. Walking up to the bus stop from the college, with friends is a hangout in itself. Also there buses are jam-packed from 4 PM to about 6 PM, after that it gets a little comfortable to even get in, so many students chill till 6, while waiting for the bus.

A majority of students come from beyond Hyderabad that is from all the districts of the state. About 70-80% crowd is non-locals, and most speak Telugu, so Telugu speaking students get along well. The ones un-acquainted with Telugu do face some problems. The ratio of girls to boys is 1:4.

Since 2004, there has not been any festival celebrated, and since 2009 (year of establishment of Symbiosis Institute sharing the same campus), first time in 3 years, Symbion 2K12, was hosted. It was a technical festival, with a lot of events for all the departments. It was held in March, and students are positive that it’ll be conducted next year onwards too.

The university norm of 75% is very strictly followed here, and you just invite troubles if you fail to keep it above 75%. Parents are called and fines ranging from Rs.300-Rs.500 can be charged as condonation fees. Yet this is allowed up to 55% attendance. Failing to have even that much, means you are detained, straight away.
Formal clothing is compulsory to college, and also on the days of the labs. Friday Saturday, students are allowed to wear casual clothes, but nothing too fancy or jazzy. Girls and guys sit in separate rows in the class, and even the interaction between the two genders is quiet restricted in the campus too. Girls and guys holding hands also, a student says is a strict NO. Using mobile phones in the campus is not allowed. The college follows a closed gate system, wherein once inside the campus in the morning, you can’t leave the campus till the end of the day. If at all, you have to go out, you need a written permission from the office, and of course a valid reason too. Arguing or fighting with the security men, is futile, and can also get you suspended for a couple of days, so beware!

With infrastructure still not ready, and placement scenario poor, this college is a big risk, and students studying here don’t find it worth. If you were to ask anyone from the college, about joining it, they also might not recommend joining this college. The group runs 10 colleges, and splits all the funds they have equally among all the colleges, rather than being focused on particular development of the good colleges. Not receiving the scholarship fund from the government on time might also be a major issue, the students doubtfully inform.
