Most of the faculty comprises of senior and well-experienced professors who are allotted the crucial subjects. Although the teachers are not out-of-the-world or anything to match the hype that St. Stephen’s has created, the students are satisfied and do not wish for more. “They are friendly and co-operative. They encourage innovative ideas” says a student.

The campus of St. Stephen’s College is similar to various other institutes in the North Campus of Delhi University; wherein acres of open gardens surround the few buildings which lie scattered all around the campus. The external appearance of the buildings is a typical red brick one which gives it an ancient but pretty amazing look. Once inside, the ancient feel still remains but when it comes studying in those classrooms it isn’t very pleasant. The recent renovations have certainly improved the quality of infrastructure and now all the classrooms as well as the library boast of air-conditioners. Also the entire campus has seamless wireless connectivity. The labs are well equipped and students face no problems with regards to infrastructure.

St. Stephen’s College boasts of a dedicated placement cell which does its best to get companies like McKinsey, Google and various other MNCs. Jobs on offer can mainly be categorised as analytical or marketing. Overseas posting has observed packages which go up to a whopping 35L a year. In India the highest goes to around 10-12 lakh a year. Average salaries range between 4 to 5 lakh a year. However, few students opt for placements and a majority go for either higher studies or “Pappa ka Business.”

Located in the North Campus of Delhi University (DU), St. Stephen’s College is situated in the middle of the campus and is easily noticeable by the blue sign boards at regular intervals. The nearest metro station is Vishwavidyalaya (Yes, the name of the station is because of the university and thus one can understand how famous and reputed the campus is) on the Yellow Line and is a minute walk from the main gate of the campus. There are hundreds of cycle rickshaws right at the gate of the university and outside every college within the North campus which charge you a nominal amount. The DTC bus frequency, especially for the North campus, is pretty awesome and drops you to the college gate, again for a very low fare. Some prefer to come by their private vehicles while a few choose to walk to the college. In short, accessibility is not a problem and connectivity is superb.
NOTE: There is a bicycle stand right outside the gate of the university which provides bicycles on a rental basis. The cost is Rs. 10 for four hours. Can’t expect anything cheaper than this!

“Is this the canteen or have we landed up in some of the more expensive Cafés?” should be the first thought on your mind when you enter the canteen. Students here prefer calling it the “Café” instead of the usual “canteen” and very rightly. Cane-wood chairs and glass top tables create a very relaxed and pleasant ambience. Space is never a problem and it serves excellent food. Minced cutlet and Maggi are super popular amongst students as they are very tasty and economically priced.

Kamla Nagar, D-school (Delhi School of Economics) are the most popular places where you find students going to after regular lectures. The Ridge is also popular for people who wish to take a walk or jog. Patel Chest is where people go to get their photo copies done, and is a place of great significance for the students.

Who doesn’t know about the crowd that St. Stephen’s College is famous for all over the country! Students with different backgrounds and varied ideas blend beautifully over here. The cream of Delhi-ites forms a major chunk of the crowd at St. Stephen’s. There is a 50% reservation for Christians.

Students with above 85% attendance are awarded full five marks allocated to attendance and they start losing marks proportional to the lectures they miss. Once it falls below the university norm of 66% warnings are given and students are given a chance to cover up for attendance. If at the end of the semester/year the attendance is still low, the student is required to sign a bond and asked to compensate in the next academic semester/year. All in all it isn’t very harsh and cases of a student being debarred are rarely heard of.

St. Stephen’s College doesn’t really live up to the hype, but certainly one of the BEST colleges in the country. In the words of a student, “It’s different but it feels at home. It doesn’t need to be fancy to be a good college”
