The best part of any law college could certainly be its faculty. Teaching student out of a textbook is a duty, but teaching a student out of personal experience is what very few can do. Senior faculty here is exceptionally qualified and their experience speaks for themselves. The Principal with his own career as a district and an additional judge also takes lectures twice a month. Others are Ph.Ds’ and masters qualified, and are good teachers also. Most teachers have their jobs along with this, because the college timings are up to 10AM in the morning, so later in the day, students and teachers both can pursue their own practice, or internships. In a day, 3 lectures are scheduled from 7 AM to 10 AM. Out of the 3 lectures, most attend 2, and then leave for their jobs, or internships.

The college begins with a small & humble compound; a simple building with a unique staircase leading inside the college to the lecture halls and other college blocks. The building looks old, and weathered in time, yet stands still since 1990. But it would be naïve to judge the college by its external appearances. The benches are new, recently replaced and are comfortable. A law college needs a good seminar hall, and a moot court room, which are both available at Siddharth Law College, and are pretty good. In case there is anything students need, they can ask for it, and the college does its best to make it available. The library is resourceful, and most of the students make optimum use of the library and the resources available. They have about 10+ copies of every book, and every year the stock is updated. The library again is not so huge that it can accommodate all the students at the same time (not that all gather at the library at the same time ever). There is no dedicated internet lab for students, and professors mainly carry their material on a pen drive, and also pass it on to students if needed. Sports ground is also provided but nothing exceptional about it, in fact during the monsoons it gets mucky and annoying. The college does not have a hostel provision.

The timings of the college are such that it encourages students to go beyond college and try for a job or internship while they are doing the 3 year course. Since all the students are graduates already in some discipline, so finding a job after the 1st semester is not a big task. For some the intention would be a little side income, while for most, it is learning legal procedures and activities along with the course. The advocates they are interning under get them exposed to a variety of legal scenarios and styles of tackling the case. Some pursuing masters here (LLM) even have their own practices also.
With regards to placements, there are no campus placements as such, but the faculties don’t mind helping the students in their personal capacity. Many take up the All India Bar Examination, for the SANAD certificate to pursue their own practice. And most pursue internships during their course to gain knowledge and exposure.

Siddharth Law College is located in Sector 16 on Road No.5, between G and Gh Roads. Right by the road the rather old structure is easily noticeable. Travelling in sectors of Gandhinagar is made convenient with the help of VTCOS buses, while many even have their personal vehicles. Those from outside Gandhinagar take ST buses from Pathikashram Bus Depot.

Currently there is no canteen and students do feel the need for one. The space has been provided and the permissions have also been issued, but nothing seems to be happening beyond that.

The crowd is mostly sincere with students from various academic backgrounds coming in to do their law studies here. Those pursuing masters are not in the age group of a typical student, and are well established in their jobs, or businesses. Students are sincere when it comes to studies but not very interactive. Most students are from Gandhinagar itself, and villages around.

People are enthusiastic about celebrations here, and you’ll find more people during the fests than at the lectures. Navratri andJanmasthami are the festivals celebrated at the college, and the GS is active with the organization of the festival. The college also celebrates an annual festival at the Town Hall.

The timings of the college are such that it is convenient for the students to attend college in the morning session, and then continue their day. Hence the college expects students to keep about 70% attendance, but if not taking 1 or 2 lectures out of the 3 scheduled is also okay. Yet the college will warn you in case of poor attendance, and you need to compensate in the next semester, or they’ll not be allowed for the semester exams. And there have been instances of students being detained for internal marks. But the students give internal marks honestly.

Being the only Law college in Gandhinagar, it certainly a choice for many and is now about 22 years old and established. The faculties are experienced, and the system of the college pretty much flexible. The Principal is a major driving force, and is very co-operative with the students.
