All the faculty members are well qualified and have good experience. Students are happy with the faculty. Some of the teachers are very strict but then still manageable. Instrumentation and Electronics are said to have the best faculty.

Calling campus huge would be an understatement. It is located in the SRM campus, but it is well separated from the rest of the SRM colleges. Most of the students confine themselves near Valliammai only and are very rarely seen in the SRM campus. The classrooms are big and well ventilated. Labs are well equipped and library is huge. The college has a decent library. There is a separate common SRM library which Valliammai students can use.
The college has basketball, football, cricket and volleyball grounds. Unlike many other colleges, students here are allowed to use the ground whenever they want.

Most of the eligible students do get a job and many of them do join also. Most of the companies are IT firms, very few core companies just one or two. TCS, Accenture and Infosys are among the major recruiters. Average salary stands at 20,000 to 25,000 per month.

Valliammai Engineering College (VEC) is located in Kattankulathur area of Kanchipuram district. Vallimmai is a constituent of the SRM group and is located in the huge SRM campus. Nearest local railway station is Potteri which is at a walkable distance. The college is very far from the Chennai city. There are many students travelling by their own vehicles and some of them do use the college bus. Majority of students use public transport.

Hostel rooms are also decent. The rooms are available with double or triple sharing and some of them have attached bathroom but this will come with a price. Food available at mess is better than most of the other colleges. There is a good combination of North and South Indian dishes. Non vegetarians have a reason to be happy; the mess serves non-veg thrice a week.

The whole campus has around 20 canteens. Yes it isn’t a mistake, it is 20! Techpark (CS & IT departments of SRM) seems to have one of the best canteens. Valliammai College canteen isn’t that great. Not much variety available. There is a food court where you will find a lot of options and is always crowded. You will find almost all cuisine here.

Valliammai has 50-50 boys to girls’ ratio. Valliammai students do perform well but you can’t classify them as nerds. They are fun loving people. Here there are students coming from all the parts on the country. There are many students who come from the North-eastern regions of the country. There are a few foreign national students too who are studying at Vallimmai as a part of exchange program.

‘Sanskriti’ is the cultural fest of Valliammai Engineering College (VEC). Students also participate in ‘Aarush’ which is a common festival for all the colleges under SRM University.

As per Anna University 75% is a must but then the college is not as strict as the other Anna university colleges. Some students do get away even with 65% attendance. Formal attire is a must. Many colleges have restrictions on laptops but Valliammai is cool with students carrying them to the college. The environment in the college does make you feel that it isn’t a very strict college.

Valliammai Engineering College is a good college; top among the tier 2 engineering colleges of Chennai. Not very strict and high exposure to co-curricular activities, apart from the good academics is what makes it a lucrative option for students.
