2-3 professors out of 6 in a department are good, and the others are just normal. Some faculties are not very experienced, and many are still perusing their Masters from CMRIT itself. The seniors are experienced, and can conduct lectures in English; students say that the junior professors don’t even make an attempt. Out of all the departments at CMREC, ECE department is considered to be better over the other departments. The issue here is that, in the end the students don’t gain practical knowledge.

The CMR campus is big, but the engineering college (CMREC) has a relatively smaller area under its hood and even the space looks barren and dull. The classes are good, and well ventilated. But overall the infrastructure is not modern completely. No projector to aid the teachers in the classroom. The labs are just about average, with things available. Internet is not available to use for students at the labs, nor do students have WiFi to access internet in college. The library is very small and only books pertaining to subjects and no other books are available. And even the books that are available, the copies fall short.
There is nice space between all the buildings, and the campus is quite wide and open, although the colleges are separated by walls. Right as you enter the campus gate is the huge cricket (sports) ground, which has a history of being the host to JNTU tournaments in the past. The grounds and the canteen infrastructure are shared by all the CMR Institutes. There’s a nice basketball court, and a volleyball court in the campus. Yet some students say, the sports facilities are namesake, and students are not allowed to play.

The placements are common for all students of the CMR campus. Although there has not been any batch out yet, but being a CMR institute, students are positive about being placed, if they maintain a good aggregate.

In the northern outskirts of the city on Medchal Road, across the Outer Ring Road, is located CMR campus - home to CMR Engineering College (CMREC). Kandlakoya is the nearest village, and CMR campus is the very next bus stop from there, and is quite a landmark in itself. Being far from the city, not many prefer to get their own vehicles, about 35 Km from Koti (apparently the centre of Hyderabad). The college has a big fleet of buses, so many students avail the bus service, which drops them home without much issues. The charges for the bus service is Rs.16,000 per year, and about 50-60% students opt for the convenience college buses offers. Only about 20% students get their own vehicles. Some stay in college hostels or in private PGs’ around. While many who find college buses unduly expensive, use the RTC buses which also drops till the college campus. 229 series from various parts of the city is frequent but crowded most of the times.

Hostels, the college does provide hostel, but that’s not on the campus. About 4-5Km from the campus is the hostel, shared again by all CMR institute students. But students report it to be in a very bad state, with poor maintenance, and bad facilities. The hostel mess is also not anything to boast about. The fees for the hostel is Rs.46,000 per year, and most find it pretty unreasonable, and not many opt for staying at the college hostel.

The canteen of CMREC is just bad, a mid-sized block and not many items on the menu that you can relish, but is reasonably priced. The best thing we tried at the canteen was a chocolate, Snickers! The space falls short, and tends to get crowded most of the times.CMRCET is open to all the students of the CMR campus colleges. The canteen is big, but not big enough to accommodate all the students at one time. Usually the first years have a separate break time, and the seniors have a different time. At times people do have to wait, or carry their food, and eat in the lawns. The place doesn’t look very hygienic but the food is surprisingly tasty and reasonably priced. In fact the students recommend that you should try the fast food here, which is very good.

There are not many places around the college, but travelling to Kompally opens up a lot of avenues to spend time at. Kompally is about 7 Kms from CMR and on the way home for many, so people don’t mind heading that way. There is Cineplanet to catch up with the latest movies. Runway 9, in Kompally is a popular place for Go-Karting, and is more like a one day adventure destination; for about Rs.600 per head, which includes Lunch and unlimited games. 90 Degrees, is a popular pool parlour in Kompally again. Students even at times go to Country Club in Medchal which is not far. If nothing’s happening, the college lawns and trees always provide the students a cool shade to spend their time with friends, without having to go anywhere.

The crowd is absolutely mixed at CMR Engineering College but most of them are not typically nerdy. About 90% of the students are locals, and come from the city areas. 10 to 12 students in every branch are from outside the city. The boy to girl ratio is about the same, with just Mechanical Dept. making an exception, as it’s absolutely un-popular with girls. There are only 4 girls in a batch of 120.

Below 75% up to 65% students have to pay a condonation fine of Rs.1,300 that is much more than the JNTU fees. Below 65% also you might escape ad might have to pay a higher fine. Students with very poor attendance of about 30-40%, would certainly be detained, and people have been detained for poor attendance. But the students say that, the college allegedly charges Rs.10,000 for full attendance, and internal marks.
Regarding disciplinary rules, there are no specific rules that are followed here. But there are CCTV cameras installed in the classes and corridors. The students have a problem with the AO (admin officer) and he doesn’t have a good rapport with the students. The girls and guys have to sit separate in the class, canteen and the campus.

Students are not very fond of CMR Engineering College (CMREC), and feel that the college needs improvement in all aspects. Only considering that it’s relatively newer college, among other CMR institutes, it might take some time to grow. The AO, as students say can change things, but is not at his best. For placements CMR group has a reputation, and because of the common placements, students have a little hope left.
