The students are quite pleased with the professors, even though some may not be up to the mark in their teaching. Regardless of how they teach, students seem to have great respect for a majority of the professors- many of them are really senior, and have been teaching for decades now! Teachers don’t normally hold grudges against students, but you shouldn’t take them (or anything) for granted.

Since RA Podar is one of the oldest colleges in the area (probably even in Mumbai), the infrastructure isn’t really anything to marvel at. The building, designed in the typical British style, looks nice from the outside, but the interiors tell a different story. The infrastructure is optimum, which means that students aren’t uncomfortable, but they aren’t too happy either. Classrooms are old and the fittings haven’t been changed in what seems like centuries. The BMS classes are air conditioned, though, and get special treatment.

Although Podar College does try to get their students placed, most of the commerce students are too busy studying for CA to bother. BMS has decent placements in terms of the profile, but the salaries they get are quite awful.

RA Podar College of Commerce and Economics is located in Matunga, in an area which is truly a students’ hub, right between Ruia and Welingkar college. Podar (like everyone there would call it) is equally accessible from both Dadar and Matunga stations, and it shouldn’t take you more than 5 minutes by foot from either. It’s also pretty close to Kings Circle, but you can’t really walk it up from there. The BEST bus frequency to the college from a number of places is excellent as well, so accessibility should never be a problem. Students normally travel by either train, or bus, or both.

It’s quite simple – when you have so many options right next door, you’ll probably never even step into the canteen. When asked ‘how’s your canteen?’, many students raised their eyebrows disapprovingly. But it’s not too bad, really. Just that there’s too many places that are far, far better.

Probably the best part of being in RA Podar! If you plan to go out every single day of the week, you’ll still need over a month to exhaust all the food joints nearby. DP's, Snowmans, Sherrys Franky, Subhash Sandwich, Mani's… the list goes on and on. Another very common place you’ll find students is the ‘Katta’ right opposite college.

All in all, the crowd at Podar is pretty nice. With a good mix of nerds and ‘chillers’, you’ll find this a good place to be. Though it’s not uncommon to bond with students of the nearby colleges (Ruia and Welingkar), the crowd at Podar should be more than enough to keep you busy. There’s certainly some eye candy, so you’ll definitely not get bored of being here.

Podar College of Commerce and Economics hosts two cultural festivals, Enigma (inter college) and Rapport (intra college).

In the past, Podar College was pretty lenient about attendance, but recently they’ve become a little strict. The college expects you to maintain about 75% attendance, but a little bit here and there is more than acceptable. If you fall well below that, parents are called, but even then not too much of a fuss is made.

One of the best commerce colleges in Mumbai, just behind HR and perhaps on par with NM.
