Owing to its brand name and the fact that it is the university’s only and most premier college of the city, RGPV UIT has one of the best faculties. Most the teachers are senior and experienced, having completed their PhD, while very few are young and yet to complete their PhD. Even the young teachers have completed MTech in minimum. The teachers are efficient in teaching and demonstrating use of lab equipment, which again is a rarity in the city. Also, because of autonomy, teachers are more flexible in teaching methods, which again is an advantage for students.

The college probably has one of the hugest campuses among all the colleges in Bhopal spread across 240 acres. The campus is lush green and well maintained (owing to the fact that it is owned by the university and maintained by the state government). LAN connections and WiFi facility is available only for the hostellers. The classrooms, though not air conditioned, are well ventilated and maintained. The college has the best library in the entire city of Bhopal called the Central Library, having one entire building dedicated towards it. The lab equipments are good and perhaps the only college to have all equipments in place in the city. Apart from these, the college has workshop buildings; solar powered lights, windmills, green energy stations and other technical facilities that help students grow a scientific temper. There are several big and small grounds for the students to play and facility for indoor sports are also there.

Companies like TCS, Mu Sigma, Fluor India, Impetus and Indian Army are regular visits to the college. Again, because it is directly owned and maintained by the university itself, the college sees greater number of placements than other colleges in the city. It is certainly the best among the government colleges in terms of placements and competes well with the private colleges. Average packages hover around 3 Lac per annum and highest up to 5 Lac per annum with around 50-60% students getting placed.

Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya – University Institute of Technology better known as RGPV-UIT formerly known as GEC (Government Engineering College) is the only autonomous college in Bhopal that is owned by the university itself and managed by the state government. In fact the college building is located within the university principal campus. The campus is located along the airport road towards the Gandhinagar area. About 30% of the students use the college hostel within the campus while the rest use the college bus facility which is covers the entire city of Bhopal, so connectivity is never a problem for students.

Residential facilities are up to date for the girls within the campus and near the college buildings, while for the boys, the hostel building is around the campus periphery. The hostellers are served food in the college canteen itself and there is no separate mess. And well, the canteen is decent- something students will not complain about. The college has a Union Bank ATM for the convenience of students.

The college has one pretty good canteen called the ‘The royal canteen’ which is actually royal when compared the canteens of other colleges. There is great variety ranging from snacks to proper breakfast and lunch available at all times of the year. The canteen also serves as the mess for the hostellers.

The college is in the outskirts of the city and there is no real place to hangout. In anyway, the campus is so huge that students rarely leave the college to hangout elsewhere. Occasional visits to DB Mall in the main city do happen.

Compared to other colleges in the city, the girl boy ratio is healthy in this college. Also, ragging is prohibited and rarely seen. Seniors and juniors maintain good relations. One of the most striking points about the college is the fact that there is no uniform system followed, the only college to do that in the city. The college attracts the best crowd from the city as well as from Madhya Pradesh, making around 70% of the total number of students. The other 30% comprises of students from neighbouring states of UP, Bihar and Gujarat.

Gecspark is the college tech fest started in March 2009. Over the years the fest has attracted the colleges from over the city and state. Though the fest is not comparable to the fests of the private colleges, it still holds a stand owing to the fact that the university is organizing it.

Attendance is strict and a minimum of 75% is asked to be maintained. With 65% + attendance, one can submit a medical certificated and get away with it. But falling short of 60-65% can result in extra assignments, deducting marks in sessional examinations and university forms being withheld in worst cases.

RGPV UIT certainly ranks in the top 5 colleges of Bhopal and the best government college in the city. It may well be said that it is the only college adhering to all AICTE and university norms; hence students have an added advantage of actually learning engineering and not just passing exams. On a pan India level, the college has a long way to travel still. For someone with options only within Bhopal, RGPV UIT should definitely be on their list.
