Despite the college is almost 50 years old, the teaching staff is still pretty average. Most of the teachers of every department are freshers and have a few years of industrial experience. Lack of senior faculty is a serious issue here. Most of the lectures are conducted in Hindi and sometimes in English.

Shyam Lal’s campus is pretty small and lacks a beautiful garden unlike other colleges in Delhi. The college is building looks very old and shabby. Thankfully, there’re no signs of the building collapsing. The non air conditioned classrooms have just about comfortable wooden benches, some broken though, and fans not working most of the times. DISASTER! Library, too, isn’t air conditioned and lacks abundance of books. Students say that maximum two copies of a particular book is available, hence there’re a lot of fights for the same. Undoubtedly after all this, you can’t expect to have internet connections and hostel facilities in the college. In short, infrastructure is hell!

Placement scenario is pretty poor and companies don’t visit the college campus. Student either go for the central placement to the North Campus where the smart North campus students are already placed or one has to try on their own.

Shyam Lal College is located on the main road towards Ghaziabad in the region of Shahdara in Northeast Delhi. The nearest station is Welcome on the Red line of the Delhi Metro and is 2 minutes walking from the college. DTC buses run with a very good frequency and the bus stop is right outside the college gate. Generally students prefer to travel by metros or DTC buses and connectivity to the college is superb.

Shyam Lal surprisingly has an air conditioned canteen but it doesn’t work for more than 11 months of the year. Students generally prefer to order packed food items as there is no variety. The canteen isn’t spacious and thus one can rate it below average.

Depsite the college is located in Northeast Delhi, which lacks good and classy areas and food parlours, Kamla Market is roughly 20 minutes away from the college. Apart from Kamla Nagar, there are no local hangouts and one has to travel to Connaught Place or some malls far in Ghaziabad.

As the college is affiliated to Delhi University (DU), certainly most of the students are from the city of Delhi though you see a good number of students coming from North east Delhi and Ghaziabad. Boys to girls ratio is 70:30 and the crowd is not at all happening. You can expect to meet a lot of students from the OBC minority in Shyam Lal College. All in all, the crowd is something that you would not cherish during your graduation days.

Fortunately, attendance isn’t that strict in Shyam Lal College. Students are told to maintain 66% but something around 50-55% is tolerated easily. Falling short of this mark, students have to sign an undertaking to make up for the attendance. Rarely any student is demoted or is not given his/her admit card.
