Faculty is again something that is really underdeveloped in Swami Vivekanand. Many teachers are not even MTech graduates and only the HODs are having proper qualifications. Again, only the mechanical branch has decent teachers, while the other branches are yet to come up to that level. Even the mechanical branch as such is not having a perfect order. Teachers change regularly and that leaves the students confused at times.

Swami Vivekanand does not have a big campus per say, though it does have a proper 3 storey L-shaped building and a field for sports activities which is not used comprehensively as such. There is also a small separate building within the campus for the MBA program. The College interiors give you the feeling of a school, with a few simple benches and a regular green board in the classrooms. They are well ventilated and spacious but there is no presence of technology like projectors and electronic systems for teaching in the classes. The college is well maintained and clean, but falls short of a good library which has limited books due to which the library is used just for studying and not borrowing. Also, the not so great library has made students lacking enthusiasm to read beyond the syllabus. The college is not Wi-Fi enabled. Labs are poor and only the mechanical lab is used properly. Students say that apart from the mechanical branch, the other branches are not fully developed in the college. Apart from the Mechanical lab, the other labs are yet to get all instruments, equipments and set them into working mode.

3 batches have passed out from the college but placement statistics have not been impressive. Except for the first batch placed, the other batches haven’t seen good placements. The companies which come to Swami Vivekanand are not very known companies and the number of students placed are also negligible constituting around 5%-10% of total number of students. The students who do not get placed try for off campus placements ,opt to study further or settle with other kinds of jobs.

Swami Vivekanand College of Science and Technology is a private engineering college affiliated to the RGPV in Bhopal. The college campus approaches from a rather rural 500 m road cutting from the Neelbad area in the outskirts of Bhopal. The college provides bus services for the students coming from their hostels in the city and also for those who do not use the college hostels. There are very few students not opting to travel by the college bus. As the bus covers most parts of the city, travelling is never a problem for the students.

The college provides hostel facilities for the both boys and girls in Nehru Nagar. After the 1st year, students are asked to search accommodation on their own. As these hostels are rented and away from the campus in the main city, they are not very good, but as students have to use them just for a year, they don’t mind.

There is a small open canteen with half a dozen tables called the “Shukla Canteen”. Poha for breakfast is served at a very nominal price, meals for lunch is available. Apart from these one should not expect anything else. Students bring their own lunch and the canteen is not popular among the students due to lack of variety and space.

The Neelbad area is strictly rural with a large number of colleges coming up in the area, so as such there are no hangouts. Students prefer going back to their hostels/PGs after college. Even around the college there are no options like eateries or food stalls, so the little canteen is the only option for the students. Bhopal city is 10 KM away and if at all students hang out, malls like DB mall and peoples mall are favourites.

The crowd is a mix with a lot of students from UP, Bihar. The quality of crowd is not the best in Bhopal; Boys generally stay with boys and girls with the girls. Interaction is limited and apart from studying students hardly have anything else to do. A dress code is followed for both girls and boys and students have to assemble for a Morning Prayer everyday like we did in school back then! The campus being secluded and hostels back in the city, there is not much happening in the college- the crowd is pretty boring. Surely not the ideal crowd that one would want to have!

The college doesn’t have an official festival. Some students do go to other colleges for participating in their college festivals.

The college has set a 75% attendance requirement which is adhered to as far as possible. Though the college does not take strict actions like detainment and year backs, it does make the students write extra assignments and attend extra practical sessions. Marks are generally not cut in the practical exams to help students score well in aggregate.

Even though it’s been 8 years since Swami Vivekanand has been established, there is not much appealing about the college. It can be listed as one of the lower rung, 3rd tier colleges where an effort is made to fill the seats.
