Less Greenery
Had I known the ratio would have been 10:1, I would have changed my stream
- Normal Engineer
The above heart-stirring, emotionally enriched and pristine quote is strangely churned out by every Engineer once in his lifetime. Probably, the worst sector of the society to be affected by the skewed sex ratio in India is the Technology sector, especially the Engineering ‘sector’. Probably, that’s why we understand the seriousness of ‘Save the Girl Child’. We do not want our little boys to suffer ahead. So altruistic na? Maybe for new inventions, emergent discoveries, complex software development & designing and technological advancements, you do not need distractions. That’s why nature formulated this species to stay away from the pretty factors of life. It is indeed helping! Thank You!
The only prominent curves an Engineer comes across are sinusoidal curves, circuit waveform outcomes, parabolas and hyperbolas. Well, I am not generalizing and I do not mean to offend any women. Most importantly, I do not want grouchy feminists protesting against my posts. I am too young in the political-social circus to be in controversy. Let me gear up for future contestations! But seriously, to be honest, I HAVE come across some pretty faces in these years and I must say I was rather thrilled to witness that. No, I am not a disreputable pervert. Just a keen observer. Anyway, I so wish to give you girls credit here but again, too young for social controversies. The first statement that came to my mind was ‘What is she doing here in Engineering?’
The surprise, shock, confusion and a feeling of being surreal when we spot a pretty face in the campus is incomprehensible. Even the guy who found water on mars must be less shocked when he discovered the elixir of life on a foreign planet. This is like a social tenet and this thought comes out of a very stereotypical thought process. Hottest chicks with all the oomph and appeal in mass media, arts and other professions and well, the less hot ones in Engineering. We have absorbed this ideology in our minds which is not fully true, though pretty much affirmative. Though less, the pretty ones you find here are well, really amazing in all respects. It is good for Sapiosexuals to find their suitable mates because the folks you witness here are pretty intelligent. Unlike the fashion/cosmetic and allied industries where brains are a scarcity, even a brain-hungry zombie would starve to death there; here it is not the case. (*finally files anticipatory bail* Google the term ‘sapiosexual’ if unaware)
The scenario is rather funny. The male to female ratio declines exponentially from Computer Science to Mechanical when plotted on a graph. Civil, Mech, Prod are probably the most draught affected branches. My heavy sympathies extended with a sea of hope. I guess, it is a trend for women to take arts and commerce, be stress free and waltz around the years of graduation. Because sadly after-marriage life is in most cases stressful for a woman.
Stupid social norms and in-laws could be a**holes being grumpy and nitpicking all the time making lives miserable. Why start from here? Enjoy our youth! This is probably the thought. Very few girls dare to take this gravelly path and that is commendable. In an evident male-dominated field, they are making their mark. That is respect! All women engineers, Kudos! On a serious note, I however, request the University to make this course less difficult, less stressful, more women-friendly so that the sacred ratio is “equilibrially” established.
PS: Never, NEVER check an Engineer’s Web Browser History. It is ‘frustrated’.
