The architecture faculty is very experienced as it’s a old university and has a good reputed name in the city. Most of them have completed their doctorate degree from excellent universities and are renowned architects. But, the in house teaching staff is not up to the mark. Students aren’t extremely pleased with the level of teaching and demand for improvement for some staff. Contrary to that, the visiting faculty is superb and students love their style of teaching. Generally, the lectures are conducted in English but some choose to communicate in Hindi making it difficult for international students. Sadly, there has been no improvement on the same.
Urdu being a compulsory subject to all the students from all the courses, the faculty is quite knowledgeable with all the topics and have good communication skills.

The decently huge campus of Jamia Millia Islamia has various buildings for every department. Though the campus is somewhat lush green at the entrance and till a few buildings, after the architecture department, it’s pretty bad. There is loads of dust and unused materials kept in the so called garden area. Jamia’s architecture building is pretty unique as it has a circular shaped building and looks really wonderful at the first glance. But the overall infrastructure is just about average. The studios (architecture classrooms) are equipped with an air conditioner and are well ventilated. There are truckloads of books in the air conditioned library, thus finding numerous copies of the same book ain’t a problem.

Jamia Millia Islamia University is located in Jamia Nagar (yes, as the name suggests) in South Delhi and is pretty famous and well known to the localities. Hundreds of Blue sign boards on the main road indicate Jamia Millia all the time, thus finding the university is NEVER a problem. The university is easily accessible by DTC buses which have an amazing frequency. The nearest metro stations are Kalkaji Mandir and Nehru Place on the violet line though they’re roughly at a distance of 5 kilometres from the college. Thanks to the auto rickshaws and cycle rickshaws which makes travelling less cumbersome, though one has to spend a good lofty amount to reach the college. The Architecture building is situated right after the engineering building and is roughly 3-5 minutes walking from the main gate of the campus.

The wifi enabled campus has a hostel facility which is clean and well maintained. There are no single seater rooms available in the campus. During the first three years, four students have to share a room (pretty congesting), but in the last two years two of them share one. Some of the hostel rooms are equipped with an air conditioner and shortly the infrastructure will definitely be one of a kind.

There are multiple canteens and food joints in the campus and students find the Youth Café and Maggie Point the best. The common canteen is cheap in terms of food quality and cost and shouldn’t be preferred apart from tea and coffee. The main canteen serves good Chole Bhature and Biryani though they’re inconsistent sometimes. Space in the canteen is never a problem as most of them prefer the green grass, the lawns and gardens, as the best place to enjoy their food.

Community Centre (CC) in New Friends Colony, adorably referred as NFC, is the standard and the most visited place by any student. There are hundreds of food joints from CCD to Barista, Dominos to Pizza Hut, Subway, roadside stalls, chole kulche, and every possible thing you want. In short, when you’re at Jamia, enjoyment ain’t a problem, definitely we mean outside the campus.

As the college is a well know institution in the city of Delhi, most of the students are from the local city. Some are from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, while a few are from Gurgaon and Noida. The architecture department has a good number of international students from countries like Iran, Iraq and Palestine primarily. In spite of a diversified crowd, students share a healthy relation amongst them and stuff like ragging aren’t seen in the campus. Due to the change in management, the relation between juniors and seniors is hampered a bit as they (the management) feels that there can be chances of ragging. Students hate this thing about the college.

Eid, the religious festival of Islam, is celebrated on a grand scale in the university. 'Iftaar' and Freshers Party are also conducted during the second semester season. Youth Festival is celebrated on the Founder’s Day.
Because of the carelessness of the management in not paying the fees for NASA on time, the college cannot participate in the competition for five consecutive years. Students are still angry with the same.

75% is mandatory at Jamia Millia Islamia failing which students get a year drop though genuine cases/reasons are exempted. Most of the students don’t share a good rapport with their teachers. Thus, attendance is something students don’t try to mess with.

Faculty of Architecture at Jamia Millia Islamia University is good choice for any architecture aspirant. Ranked as one of the good colleges in the city in spite of not being under the Delhi University tag, the college has improved over the years and has all the factors in becoming a top institute in the city. Some students refrain to join because of the minority quota but it’s an appeal from the college students not to do so. Good, diversified and definitely friendly crowd is seen in the college.
