The teachers here are average; not really great but just okay. ECE and CS faculties are better than the rest. Most of the teachers are not very experienced, just about one or two in each department are well qualified and have good experience. Students however don’t seem to mind having inexperienced teachers teaching them; some students are rather fond of particular faculties. It’s a win-win situation for the college.

GKM College of Engineering & Technology has a huge campus. As you enter the campus you will be welcomed by two buildings on either side of the nice concrete road at center. On one of the sides of this road, there is a life size model of a ship. This huge ship is not just to provide eye candy but does serve purpose to Nautical Engineering students. The classrooms are air conditioned and each student is provided with an individual chair and a desk. GKM's campus is Wi-Fi enabled but most of the students don’t use it. College provides gym and sports facility too that can be used only after college hours.

The college says that it does aim to achieve 100% placement but then it doesn’t say anything about how much it succeeds in that. There are a decent number of companies coming to the college but all of them are IT jobs. Even if the company is not from the IT industry it still provides an IT profile job. Once a student gets placed he isn’t allowed to apply for the other companies in order to facilitate as many others as possible with jobs.

GKM College of Engineering & Technology (GKMCET) is located 3km off GST, near Perungalathur. Accessibility to college is poor as bus stop & railway station both are far from here. If you can manage to reach Perungalathur or Tamabaram local railway station somehow, you’ll be able to catch a train for Chegalpattu or Chennai Beach respectively, which is a faster option. Also MTC buses to major areas of city are available from Perungalathur, but bus travel will probably take forever as the college is about 30km from center of the city.
All the students however have to compulsorily travel by college bus which plies to most major areas of city. Charge for this service is 8000 to 12000 per year depending on distance.

The canteen is simple. There isn’t much on offer in canteen and moreover as the students aren’t allowed to sit there for more than 10 minutes, there is a mad rush during the break hours.

Around 60% of the students are from Chennai. The rest are from the other parts of Tamil Nadu. There aren’t students from other states here.

Each department has its own festival or ‘symposium’ as they call it. Most of the events here are the common ones which you find in almost all the colleges in Chennai. LAN gaming is the popular event in almost all the symposiums.

Wearing formal is compulsory at GKM, like most other engineering colleges in Chennai. Students are fined Rs 20/- for improper dressing. The college does not allow any extra-curricular activities during the college hours, students are supposed to take care of it after the official timings.
Students aren’t allowed to sit in the canteen apart from the 2 breaks. And during that too you can’t spend more than 10 minutes in canteen.

GKM College of Engineering & Technology is among second tier colleges. Great infrastructure, relatively good teachers & a prospect of job makes it a decent option for average scorers. However odd location & high fees might be a deterrent for some. Make a choice sensibly!
