Only the first year teachers are well qualified; for higher years the standard of teaching is poor. Most of the departments don’t have a single doctorate professor. Unlike many other colleges, Sri Lakshmi Ammal Engg College at least has a good senior to junior professor ratio. Many teachers hold Masters’ degree and a very few number of teachers are just fresher.
Communication can be a problem here for non-Tamilians as many teachers talk in Tamil. Even when they don’t, their heavy accented English might be deciphered as Tamil.

Drastic improvement has taken place in the college infrastructure over the past 3 years. College has huge area but most of it is unutilized. Labs are decent with maintained equipment. Yet there is a good room for improvement. Civil and Mechanical departments are still under construction. Surprisingly when Stupidsid team asked about Wi-Fi connectivity, the answer was affirmative.
Sri Lakshmi Ammal EC has a number of grounds for sports activities but then they aren’t maintained.

Don’t expect wonders here. Placements are very much below average. Only a quarter of the students get placed. There are no core-companies coming; only small IT firms come for recruitment. Students say that the new TPO is trying to improve this scenario.

Sri Lakshmi Ammal Engineering College (SLAEC) is located in Thiruvanchery area near Tambaram. You can’t walk up to nearest bus station from college as it is about 2km away. Also there aren’t many buses with good frequency from this bus stop. So generally what most students do is that they take college bus up to Tambaram from where they can get plenty of buses for various parts of Chennai metropolis.

Canteen serves decent edible food once in a while. Don’t think of having a sumptuous meal here. You aren’t allowed to carry outside food in the canteen. Unless you have the courage to eat the canteen food, don’t think of visiting it.
There many great stalls outside the college, near to Bharath University where many students relish their meals. Not to mention the smoking joints which the students frequently visit.

Many of these students aren’t well versed with English and which they feel is a big hindrance for them. Students from the city seem to mingle well with the other students. The ‘fairer sex’ is a rarity here. Male to female ratio is highly skewed, no need to mention on which side.

The college conducts a technical symposium which sees participation from Sri Lakshmi Ammal Engineering College and Bharath University only. Cultural festival is not conducted in here. When Stupidsid team enquired about the reason for the same, they were as clueless as us.
Another peculiar festival organized here is Food Fest. All the proceeds of this festival are utilized towards some social cause.

There is no relaxation when it comes to attendance. Students are supposed to maintain 75% and falling even a percent below that isn’t acceptable. Students are expected to wear complete formal dress with a single pocket shirt and shoes. The college is very serious about it and anyone breaking the rule is fined.

You definitely need to think twice before joining Sri Lakshmi Ammal Engineering College. The college doesn’t particularly excel in any parameter. The best reason to join this would be for the eateries outside the college, says a student.
