Students at Government Law College (GLC) are pretty satisfied with the teaching and were all praise for their faculty members. “It lives up to the hype and reputation it has carved out for itself” comments a student. Lots of visiting faculty including judges and solicitors keep coming in frequently from the third year onwards.

Like all other government colleges in the country, GLC has a hundred year-old building spread out over a huge chunk of land with a small campus surrounding the structure. Its interiors are not the best you can have but they aren’t intolerable either – huge classrooms with wide benches made of vintage wood, an amazing library stocked with books you won’t find anywhere else and well-maintained moot courts are some of features to highlight. Government Law College.

GLC boasts of one of the finest placements in the country not just amongst law colleges, but it comes out to be comparable to even other colleges. Highest salary offered goes upto a whopping Rs. 20L per year. Even the average salary is high as Rs. 10L a year. Even with such huge packages many students are said to go abroad for higher studies. Top law firms such as Amarchand Mangaldas, AZB and consulting major E&Y are said to be regular recruiters here.
The college, however, doesn’t assist students in getting internships which they have to hunt for themselves.

Government Law College (GLC) is literally a stone’s throw away from Churchgate, last railway station on the Western Railways. It’s fabulous location makes it one of the most accessible colleges in Mumbai.

However, doesn’t have hostel dedicated to itself but it does share two to three hostels with some other government colleges like Sydenham and Ruparel. Two of these hostels are pretty close but if you’re unlucky you might be put up in the third hostel at Jogeshwari – about 25 kms from the college.

It’s up on the second floor, a narrow passage-way leading towards the sitting area and another half of the same passage-way used to take orders and serve food. It has very recently been started and until now the students had to manage from outside. The sitting area isn’t even bigger than some of your bedrooms and can accommodate few people comfortably.  It’s hot and uncomfy inside and you can’t really spend long hours there (perhaps this is why they made it the way it is). Food served is hygienic, tastes average and costs a reasonable amount.

South Mumbai has countless places which can act as great hangout joints. Movie theatre "Eros" - one of the few light on pocket yet decent with the crowd theatres - is a stone's throw away. Regal, Inox, Sterling, New Excelsior aren't too far either. To catch a fresh breeze of air and have nice little walk there's Marine Drive which obviously is the most popular past time amongst students at HR College. Numerous restaurants and snack joints include Samrat, 210 degrees, Relish, Pizzeria, Gaylord, Mocha, Shiv Sagar, Satkar and many more names crop up if do not mind a tiny vehicle ride. Another popular and cheap hangout is the Sandwich and Rolls stall bang opposite the gate which serves a must-try "Chilli Cheese Toast".

Well, it’s a mixed bag – from highly intellectual youth to really dumb ones, from beautiful gals to handsome guys and not to mention the many not-so-handsome ones – you’ll find every variety here. Loads of students come from outside Maharashtra as well, so although Mumbaikars would form a majority here – it’s just by a small margin.

“Panathenae” is an intercollege cultural event celebrated at Government Law College (GLC) sometime in mid-February. It also hosts one of India’s largest moot court events which witnesses tremendous participation from all over the country. Apart from this, atleast another 10-15 events are held at an intra college level and thus the students are exposed to a whole of opportunities here.

A lot of students at Government Law College (GLC) begin interning at some firm or the other right from their first year. The college doesn’t seem to mind as long as the students are having a good learning experience and keep performing well academically. Once in a while they do need to show their faces just so that the faculty is updated about what they’re doing.
