Law faculty at Jamia Millia Islamia is very good. Teachers have in-depth knowledge about the subject. Moreover, they are well doctorates in their particular filed and are thoroughly experienced. The guests lectures are lawyers and are excellent. Students find the overall faculty quite promising and up to the mark. Being a law college, the faculty has an excellent command over English.
Urdu being a compulsory subject to all the students from all the courses, the faculty is quite knowledgeable with all the topics and have good communication skills.

The law department shares it building with the management students. Thus, the top three floors of the five storey building are dedicated to the law students. The non air conditioned classrooms are well ventilated with comfortable benches. Fans are in working condition and students seem to be satisfied with the same. Sadly, there is no wifi connection for the first year students. Apart from the central university library, there is separate library for the law students which has books available in abundance though renovation is taking place.

Big firms like Luthra & Luthra, Fox & Mendel recruit law students from the Jamia Millia Islamia campus and offer a pay package of around 5-6 lakhs per annum. The placements aren’t 100%, but students don’t really bother about that. The general trend is to go for litigation and higher studies. So, placements ain’t something students look for, though exceptions are always there.

Jamia Millia Islamia University is located in Jamia Nagar (yes, as the name suggests) in South Delhi and is pretty famous and well known to the localities. Hundreds of blue sign boards on the main road indicate Jamia Millia all the time, thus finding the university is NEVER a problem. The university is easily accessible by DTC buses which have an amazing frequency. The nearest metro stations are Kalkaji Mandir and Nehru Place on the violet line though they’re roughly at a distance of 5 kilometres from the college. Thanks to the auto rickshaws and cycle rickshaws which makes travelling less cumbersome, though one has to spend a good lofty amount to reach the college. The Law building is situated far inside the campus and is roughly 10 minutes walking from the main gate.

There are multiple canteens and food joints in the campus and students find the Youth Café and Maggie Point the best. The common canteen is cheap in terms of food quality and cost and shouldn’t be preferred apart from tea and coffee. The main canteen serves good Chole Bhature and Biryani though they’re inconsistent sometimes. Space in the canteen is never a problem as most of them prefer the green grass, the lawns and gardens, as the best place to enjoy their food.

Well, since the college is located in South Delhi which is considered to be one of the posh areas of the city, you’ve innumerable hangouts. Community Centre (CC) in New Friends Colony, adorably referred as NFC, is the standard and the most visited place by any student. There are hundreds of food joints from CCD to Barista, Dominos to Pizza Hut, Subway, roadside stalls, chole kulche, and every possible thing you want. In short, when you’re at Jamia, enjoyment ain’t a problem, definitely we mean outside the campus.

As the name suggests, the college has a Muslim Religion Minority Quota. Thus atleast 50% of the students are Muslims, though one can seen more than 70% of the same in the campus. As the college is a well know institution in the city of Delhi, most of the students are from the local city. Some are from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, while a few are from Gurgaon and Noida. In spite of a diversified crowd, students share a healthy relation amongst them and stuffs like ragging aren’t seen in the campus.

Eid, the religious festival of Islam, is celebrated on a grand scale in the university. Iftaar and Freshers Party are also conducted during the second semester season. Youth Festival is celebrated on the Founder’s Day.
National Law Competition is held in Jamia law department which is one of it’s kind in Indian law colleges.

Jamia Millia is extremely strict when it comes to attendance. Law students have to maintain 75%, failing which they’re not allowed to sit for the exams. Genuine cases are exempted rarely, and thus students live up to the 75% norm religiously. Some say that shortage of even a single percent during first year can cancel your first year admission to the college. VERY STRICT!

Faculty of Law at Jamia Millia Islamia University is an upcoming college though it’s established since a long time. Law at Delhi University is the ideal preference for anyone though Islam minorities prefer Jamia. “Not a very fancy college, Jamia will give you peace of mind”, quoted by two first year studs. There are loads of opportunities provided how you use them. Take it, if you’re short of options.
